Nebuta Matsuri "The short yet hot summer of Aomori"
The Nebuta Matsuri is a festival that symbolizes the summer in Aomori and is accented by unique regional variations. The Goshogawara festival floats (tachineputa) are famous for being tall while the Hirosaki festival floats are famous for being fan-shaped. Aomori's Nebuta Matsuri boasts the largest number of floats and dancers in Japan. The festival is a celebration of Aomori's short but hot summer, and is characterized by its vibrant lights and colors.
The festivals are celebrated every year on the following dates:
Hirosaki Neputa Matsuri: August 1 to 7
Aomori Nebuta Matsuri: August 2 to 7
Goshogawara Neputa: August 4 to 8
