Izu Islands “Hachijo Island” (Hachijojima)
Reach "Hachijojima" from Tokyo in about 55 minutes by flight, and experience the untouched scenic beauty of the island.
An approximately 850 m high mountain. Take a "crater tour" after reaching the summit and enjoy the 360 degree view.
Go on hiking in the forest where the "Hegoshida" fern, a protected species of ferns grows. It feels like a place from the dinosaur era. Because it is a private property, reservation is required to explore it (not free).
Snorkeling and diving are popular activities in the beautiful waters of Izu Islands. There is a high chance of an encounter with sea turtles while diving.
Unusual terrain where small pebbles accumulated in the cavities rotate with the flow of water and cause the circular hole to expand. You can see it while walking on the promenade.
Onsen (Hot Springs)
Post-activities, head for a hot spring to relax yourself. There are seven hot springs on the island. Amongst them, "Miharashi Hot Spring" offers a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean. There are also mixed bathing hot springs such as "Uramigataki Hot Spring" where you need to wear a swimsuit. Hot springs on "Hachijo Island" do not accept overnight guests.
Traditional Craft "Kihachijo"
A traditional fabric dyed with the local plants. There is also a workshop where you can experience working on a weaving machine.
Island Gourmet "Shimazushi" (Island Sushi) and "Shochu"
The famous "Shimazushi" is fish on rice served with soya based sauce, eaten with mustard rather than wasabi. The "shochu" known as "Shimazake" is also popular. It is made from potatoes, barley or a blend of potatoes and barley.
Yasuragi Nakanogo Hot Spring, Hachijo-jima island "An island hot spring with a beautiful view out to sea"
Hachijo Island is one of the Izu islands, located 300 kilometers south of the center of Tokyo. Yasuragi Hot Spring is located on a hill in the island's southeastern district of Nakanogo. It's known for its waters containing sodium chloride, which is said to be very effective for recovering from stress and fatigue. This hot spring is very popular due to its panoramic view of the Kuroshio Sea.
