A series of pilgrimage routes from "Kyoto", etc. to “The Kumano Sanzan" or the three Grand Shrines of Kumano. Many shrines are scattered on the way, but one not-to-be-missed spot is the "Nachi no Otaki" or the Nachi Falls of "Kumano Nachi Grand Shrine". It is the tallest waterfall in Japan with a height of 133 m. Many people visit this place as a power spot (sacred site). There are also walking trails which take you through beautiful nature.
Kumano Kodo is a World Heritage Site which has been designed as one of the Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range. It is an old road which connects Kumano Sanzan, in the south of Kii Peninsula, with Ise and Osaka, Wakayama, Koyasan and Yoshino. Kumano has long been known to be a place where the gods live, and many people walk the road while praying and heading towards Kumano Sanzan.
