Hakata Gion Yamakasa "A traditional festival for strengthening bonds"

The Hakata Gion Yamakasa is a festival which colors the summer. Once the festival begins on July 1st, the entire town has Yamakasa fever. The festival is said to have begun in the Kamakura period when a monk, wanting to rid the town of the plague, sprinkled water onto the local people. The participants carry traditional and extravagant floats throughout the streets, praying for world peace.
