This lake is known for "Marimo", a spherical algae that grows on it. It is located in the "Akan-Mashu National Park". "Early morning walking tours" on the frozen "Lake Akan" are popular in winter. In early mornings, if it is not windy, water vapor freezes over the lake and appears like flowers, known as "Frost Flowers". Grab your camera and join the tour to sight these beautiful frost flowers.
"Akanko Onsen" is located on the shore of Lake Akan. You can enjoy the scenic view and the hot springs from the many inns that face the lake.
