Port City of Hakodate
The port city of Hakodate is rich in delicious seafood and beautiful night views. There is also a hot spring near Hakodate airport.
One of the three major hot springs in Hokkaido. The "Hakodate Tropical Botanical Garden" in the hot spring district has a monkey mountain, and many tourists come to see the Japanese Macaques that enter the hot spring in winter.

The view from the observation deck is 3 listed as a star in the "Michelin Green Guide Japan" travel guide. The best time to take photographs, with dark blue skies and city lights, is about 30 minutes after sunset.
These are the only two star-shaped citadels in Japan, built to replicate the European fortified cities. The cherry blossoms and snowy landscape in spring are something worth seeing.
This area has many churches and western-style buildings; it almost feels like being in a different country. Among the many hills in Hakodate, the most famous one is the "Hachiman Zaka" in this area.
Hakodate Morning Market (Gourmet)
Seafood is the gourmet food of the port city of Hakodate. The "Hakodate Morning Market" is full of shops serving bowls of fresh seafood. The squid fishing activity, where you can eat squid sashimi from squid you catch yourself on the spot, is also popular.

Hokkaido's Hakodate is a town with an international feel. Famous for it's night scenery as well as sloped streets which run to the harbor, the five million visitors it sees each year make it one of Japan's top tourist destinations. Along with Shimoda, Hakodate was developed as one of Japan's earliest international trading ports. This cosmopolitan city was one of the first in Japan to embrace western culture.
